The SoilDoc spade test offers you a simple method for assessing the structure and condition of your soil. It enables you to identify potential damage at an early stage and maintain the long-term fertility and water storage capacity of your soil. Observe the structure, colours, smells and other characteristics in the different layers of any soil type. SoilDoc is compatible with the VESS-Method but offers a wider range of information and is specifically designed for advisory context. It is free of charge and applicable with little effort.

Step by step

Our documents explain how you can easily and efficiently assess the structure of your soil and make informed decisions about its care and management.

Manual sampling

An explanation of spade sampling according to BodenDok.
As climate change is becoming increasingly noticeable for agricultural businesses, it is very important to have good soil structure that guarantees good air and water balance. BodenDok can be used to assess this soil structure.

Mechanical sampling

Spade sampling without a spade.
With a front loader, sampling is less strenuous, you can dig much deeper into the soil, obtain a larger volume, and make a better assessment. One disadvantage is that you lose the feel for different soil layers and existing compaction.
